About the Westport Rideaus

Our Team

In June 2022 the Village of Westport purchased a Junior Hockey franchise in the National Capital Junior Hockey League, operating under the Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) branch based in Ottawa, as sanctioned by Hockey Canada. League action will begin for this team in September 2022.

As owners, the Village Council has entrusted a volunteer group (known as the Westport Hockey Operations Group) to operate the club on their behalf. The objectives of this group are to provide family entertainment for the community,  provide opportunities for local players to play junior hockey and to maintain a self sustaining financial position as a Not for Profit junior hockey team.

The history of junior hockey began in 1967 when three local businessmen (Ansley Green, Hal Lynn & Jim Wing) founded the club as a place for local players to continue their playing days as they graduated from local minor hockey associations. Initially a Junior C team in what was known as the Rideau Division, the club moved to the Rideau- St. Lawrence league and eventuallly the EOJHL as a Junior B team. Today the local hockey juniors have returned to their "roots" and are playing in the NCJHL and once again offering locals a place to play the game they love after they have graduated from their local minor hockey teams.
